Remember how we all laughed at the Tea Party movement and the clowns it spawned? The Tea Party gave us Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz and others, and we thought their aversion to facts and unhinged hatred of President Obama was scary and hilarious at the same time.
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert relentlessly mocked their cult-like acceptance of Fox News. We patted ourselves on the back saying that we were superior to conservative conspiracy nuts who subscribed to Alex Jones or Rush Limbaugh, because the left wasn’t gullible and easily manipulated by fake news as those people we looked down on.
If you think that promoting clickbait and hyper-sensational stories isn’t profitable, let’s consider the fact that some previously self-describer “libertarian bloggers” jumped into the conservative media industry and work for individuals like former congressman Allen B. West, because it pays well.
Skip ahead to 2016, and the fake news phenomenon that conservatives ate up for years had made its way to the left. Even though Russia manipulated social media against Hillary Clinton, the far-left gobbled up the propaganda, and now the pro-Hillary Clinton wing of the Democratic Party is engaging in similar acceptance of “alternative facts” against Bernie Sanders.
Here are some screenshots of liberal activists in Facebook groups I belong to trashing Bernie Sanders and begging for another Hillary Clinton campaign in 2020 – even though she has said she will not run again, nor would she approve of these individuals trying to tear the Democratic Party apart.
The difference between Democrats and Republicans is that the GOP may have internal conflicts, but they turn out to vote for their candidate in elections. Democrats engage in circular firing squads, ideological purity tests, and often refuse to vote for someone who doesn’t line up 100% with their personal beliefs.
One example of this is the Tea Party-like hatred for Bernie Sanders by some Democrats. This is partly due to personal politics, as well as being duped by fake news websites like Palmer Report and Daily News Bin (with their owner having undoubtedly made a lot of money by supporting Hillary Clinton with dubious claims), and trashing everyone else. Then there are the far-left supporters of Bernie Sanders who sound exactly like Rush Limbaugh and conservative pundits with their hatred for Hillary Clinton, and rejection of science.
Here are some screenshots of Facebook pages posing as pro-Bernie organizations, which are actually designed to drive traffic to websites. Because apparently continuing to dig up old wounds and post clickbait is more profitable and important to them.
Democrats don’t need their own Tea Party, fake news, and “alternative facts.” They’re already in jeopardy of losing even more seats in government. Ideological purity tests, heavily distorted news blogs run by for-profit “political organizations” in the Tea Party vein are making things worse, not better.
Democrats must embrace the “50 State Strategy” and welcome moderates or independents that Bernie Sanders brought into the party, rather than drive those people away. Unless this changes, the DNC can expect more losses like the one we saw in 2010, 2014, and 2016.
