Every time Dick Cheney opens his mouth, a demon gets his horns.
Although, for once something that came out of Old Iron Dick’s mouth is something I happen to agree with. Of course, Metal Heart McGee didn’t mean it as a compliment, but that’s okay. I’ll take the Cyberdyne Systems T-IQ-Of-a-100’s words, spin them around, and show you how he just proved that the truth actually has a liberal bias.
Let’s start first with the impetus of this little piece, Dick Cheny’s comments on Fox News following the last Republican primary debate. The reason Captain Blood Monger was invited on, I’m guessing, is that Trump did what no Republican politician is allowed to do — he told the truth about the Iraq War and 9/11.
Here’s a little bit of what Trump said during the debate, in case you missed it:
“George W. Bush made a mistake. We can make mistakes. But that one was a beauty. We should have never been in Iraq. We have destabilized the Middle East.”
“Call it whatever you want,” Trump continued. “They lied. They said there were weapons of mass destruction, there were none. And they knew there were none.” (source)
So, essentially Trump said that Dubya “made a mistake” (which is a bit of an understatement to say the least), that we never should have gone into Iraq, that we destabilized the Middle East in doing so, and that the Bush/Cheney Administration lied about weapons of mass destruction. All of this is objectively true. There is more than enough evidence — that has been around for over a decade at this point, that shows the Bush Administration was told fairly early on that their rhetoric about an active WMD program was completely unfounded, but ol’ Mendacious Dick can’t let someone just go and squeeze out truth bombs like that onto Republican voters, so he went on Fox News and told Bret Baier what he thought of Trump’s comments.
Here’s a clip of the appearance, courtesy of YouTube:
“He sounds like a liberal Democrat to me,” Cheney told Baier. Holy hell, he actually thinks that it’s only “liberal Democrats” who know the truth about the Iraq War. I mean, I don’t know if he actually believes that or if he’s just going through his motions and saying things he knows aren’t true. But that would mean Mr. Fuckface Cheney is lying to us, and when has Dick Cheney ever lied to us?
I hate to break it to Dick Cheney, but the overwhelming majority of intelligent human beings are liberal Democrats if we’re going to use his measure. Because the overwhelming majority of people completely understand what a crock of complete and utter shit the Iraq War was. Thinking humans have known there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq since almost right after we invaded. Just because Republicans have deliberately been kept in the dark, doesn’t mean the rest of the country or in fact the rest of the world doesn’t know the truth.
Look, I get it. The most recent polls I could find showed that about half of Republicans still actually believed that the lies they were told by Dick Cheney et. all back in 2002 weren’t lies. That data is from January of last year. What Cheney is probably deathly afraid of is someone like Trump ripping the carefully placed wool that Dick and his buddies laid over the half of Republican voters who still believe him. If for some reason the rest of Republicans become “liberal Democrats,” aka learn the truth about the Iraq War, what would that mean for Cheney, his fortune, and his liberty?
Facts are facts, however, and poor Cheney knows this as well. He’s been caught red handed in the cookie jar of Iraq so many times that I’m truly blown away that news organizations, even Fox News, would still put him on as if he had any credibility on the subject. If knowing the truth about Iraq — that it was built on lies and false information and that there was no connection to 9/11 whatsoever — makes you a liberal Democrat, that means every single, solitary person outside the half of Republicans who think otherwise are “liberal Democrats.”
In fact, what this really means is that even half of Republicans are fully-aware of and acknowledge the truth. The sphere of willful ignorance that Cheney, Bush, Wolfowitz, Rice, and Powell built is deflating around them quickly. Out of survival they have to keep up appearances, of course, and that includes calling those who know the truth and don’t deny it “liberal Democrats.”
Cheney will probably never see in the inside of a prison cell for the lies he told about Iraq. But if what Cheney said is true, and only “liberal Democrats” believe reality about the Iraq War, then I think the GOP is in real, serious danger this fall, don’t you?
