I’m A Republican And I Will Vote For The Democrat This Fall, No Matter Who It Is

democratsManny’s tired of it, James is tired of it, and fuck it all, I want to put in my two cents also about the current Democrat kerfuffle.

Frankly, my dears, I don’t give a good goddamn what the Democrats do. I’m sitting over here like Switzerland, watching this shit show go down while I eat my popcorn. I was too late to this party to do a whole lot about it.

This is my coming out election, folks. Take your collective gasps, because this will be my first time ever to go to the polls and vote for a Democrat for president. Since I live in the middle of Bible Land, it honestly doesn’t matter if I vote for Secretary Clinton, Senator Sanders, or Neil deGrasse Tyson as a write-in, my state is going Trump with three capital K’s.

I will go, I will vote, and it will be a complete waste of my time. But I was raised to believe that it is my right and my duty to mark that ballot, and men died for that freedom. Women fought for my right to go with my husband and cancel his vote, and I take my daughter with me every time I do it.

I don’t care which Democrat you vote for. Honestly. If you are convicted like James and feel that it is #BernieorBust, then I encourage you to follow your conscience. Manny has decided he will vote for the Democratic candidate, period, and that is fantastic, too. This is America, and that is what we do. I’d appreciate it if you would all stop bullying and berating each other over it, though. Nobody is going to change anybody’s mind by acting like a shithead. You can debate and disagree, but for the love of all that is holy, please keep it respectful.

Family legend says that many years ago, my Poppa drove an hour to pick up my Mimi and take her to vote. He dropped her off at home, got back in his car, and drove another hour back to work to finish out his day. Late that night over dinner, as they were talking, he discovered her vote for Eisenhower had killed his vote for Stevenson. Bless his heart. They were happily married for forty-four years, and he always made sure they both went to vote.

As a Republican, I have held my nose a lot (Bush anyone?). The further I moved from the Conservative principles, the more difficult it was for me. Frankly, I’m not thrilled with any of the candidates this time around. But until this system changes, and we have more options, I’m not sure I’ll ever have the opportunity to vote for someone I really, truly just adore.

Until then, I’ll have to vote my conscience, which is #BlueNoMatterWho. I just hope we all survive until the general with our sanity and friendships intact.
