The Religious Right Now Actually Believes Donald Trump Was Sent By God

If you told me a year ago that Donald Trump would be the 45th president, I would have dismissed that claim as bullshit, as would just about anyone in the business of taking guesses about politics, also known as punditry. If you told me that Trump would be president AND that the religious right would be cooing over him, I’d probably have pissed myself laughing. Yet here we are, just days away from the inauguration.

Who would have thought that the religious right, Wall Street and the Russian government could come together and love the most unqualified, un-Christian president this country has ever had? Who would have thought that the difference of about 80,000 votes in three key states would propel a thin-skinned egomaniac with a Twitter addiction who believes vaccines cause autism into the White House?

Apparently the long odds are being hailed as a miracle from god by the American version of the Taliban, and not only are individuals like Jerry Boykin or Franklin Graham rallying around Trump, they see this victory as a sign to finish taking over state governments as well.

Via Right Wing Watch:

While most Religious Right leaders eventually rallied around Donald Trump’s candidacy, his earliest Amen Corner was heavy with the self-proclaimed apostles and prophets from the dominionist Pentecostal wing of American Christianity who declared Trump anointed by God. As Trump prepares to take office, many of the same people came to Washington, D.C., last week to launch “POTUS Shield,” a movement designed in part to “discern, declare, and decree the strategies of the Lord for our nation, with a special sensitivity to the three branches of the United States government.”

Among the characters involved in POTUS Shield are Cindy Jacobs, Lance Wallnau, Lou Engle, Rick Joyner, Harry Jackson, Jerry Boykin, E.W. Jackson, Jennifer LeClaire, Mark Gonzalez and Alveda King. The group met in prayer at the National Press Club and broke into smaller groups to pray at sites such as the Supreme Court. After the inauguration, the group will turn its attention to state capitals and government agencies. (Source)

The fact that these religious fanatics have embraced Trump shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who pays close attention to the far-right. Just like the far-left, they believe that Hillary Clinton is evil incarnate, but for different reasons.

Faced with the choice of Hillary Clinton or the reanimated corpse of Benito Mussolini, they would have chosen the latter and proclaimed he was sent by god to save America from the evils of political correctness and to drain the swamp. On the other hand, the ideologically purist left either voted for an anti-vaccine doctor who was also friendly with Putin, or didn’t bother to show up at all.

If you thought a Trump administration was scary, just wait until these religious fanatics take hold at the state and local levels in areas they didn’t control before. Buckle up, it’s going to be a dark four to eight years, if not longer.
